Introduction
Earthquake is one of the most devastating natural disasters. It is impossible to predict every one of them even with the highly developed technology we have these days. Therefore it is necessary to take actions to minimize damages. In order to minimize the damage from earthquake, there exists a system called base-isolation which helps protecting a building structure’s integrity. At least major buildings of earthquake-prone areas should be considered to be rebuilt with the base-isolation system. The proposed research will assess the feasibility of employing the base-isolation technology in its original construction or the retrofit of major buildings in the nation.
