Non-traditional family
Non-traditional family in Korea is a new family system which is challenging or breaking the traditional rules. These days, the concept of family is changing in Korea. In traditional society, Korean people considered blood relations the most meaningful. Also the eldest son was the parent’s favorite. According to Korean tradition, the eldest son lived with and supported his parents, so the eldest son inherited most fortune from his parents. When parents had two sons, the eldest son inherited over two thirds. Women were regarded as non-family members. When parents didn’t have a son, they kept trying to have a son until they got a son. However, a son is no longer the parent’s favorite in Korea. Unlike our parents, many people have only one or two children. When a son grows into a man, a man usually tends to treat parents curtly and only cares about his own business. Today, many people prefer a daughter to a son in Korea.
