다. 그 두 가지 언어장애란 dyslexia와 SLI인데요, dyslexia도 SLI에 포함시킬 수 있으나 여기서는 조금 구분짓고 있습니다. 언어를 지각하기 위해서는 일단 spectral shape, amplitude modulation, modulation of fundamental and pectral frequency, temporal resolution 등 기본적인 음향 요소들을 지각할 수 있어야합니다. 예를 들어 브로카 영역에 손상을 입으면 알맞은 단어를 사용하지 못하는 증상을 겪게 되고 베르니케 영역에 손상을 입으면 의미가 없는 말을 하게 됩니다. SLI는 일반적으로 지능과는 별다른 관련이 없는 것으로 알고 있습니다. 글자가 글자가 아닌 일종의 그림으로만 받아들여지는 그런 것이죠. SLI는 specific language impairment, 즉 특별히 언어기능이 손상을 말합니다. 언어기능이 일반지능과 관련이 없다는 것은 일반지능은 떨어지지만 말은 유창하게 하는 윌리엄스 신드롬 환자들 같은 경우를 보면 잘 알 수 있습니다.

auditory processing에 영향을 미치는 요소에는 여러 가지가 있고 그 중 가장 명백한 것은 청력의 이상입니다. dyslexia는 난독증, 즉 읽기와 철자법에 곤란을 겪는 증상입니다. 그렇다면 auditory processing에 영향을 미치는 요소 중 청력이 아닌 것들, 즉, 좀더 미묘한 것들에는 어떤 것들이 있을까요
일단 본 논문에서 탐구하고자 하는 주제는 그런 `미묘한` 요소와 두 가지 언어장애 간의 관계입니다.
